Silver & Gold Plating of a Flute Head Joint for the Musical Instrument Industry2 Tone Flute Head Joint | | A customer in the musical industry approached G. Tanury Plating Co. in need of silver and gold plating of a 2-tone flute head joint. The part would require 2 separate masking procedures as well as 2 separate plating operations. To maintain the precise fit we applied 1.5 inch mask to the end of the part prior to racking the parts for silver plating. Using a custom mask developed at G. Tanury Plating, we sealed the entire tube leaving only the lip plated exposed for rack gold plating. Throughout the procedure we used 17 different, highly skilled processes and pieces of equipment. The
product measured 8.5" long and had an outside diameter of .75". The
silver plating we applied measured 300µ" and the gold plating
measured 100µ". Upon completion of the plating and cleaning, we
used x-ray fluorescence to determine the final thickness. Once the
products were completed and quality was ensured, we shipped the flute
heads to the client in the Midwest, who was extremely satisfied with the
results. |
